Mr. Johnson died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at his home in Freeport, Texas. He was born October 25, 1946 in Ville Platte, Louisiana, the son of Julius A. Johnson and Lottie Whatley. He graduated from Sulphur, Louisiana High School and received his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He served in the United States Air Force and was a Master Electrician who owned his own companies, M & J Electric and Johnson Electric Company of Bryan. Rowland was an outgoing man who enjoyed the outdoors, especially salt-water fishing. Family members said that he was the kind of loving man who would bend over backwards for his family and friends. They said he was a loving father and grandfather and his family was his number one priority. Rowland is preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Rose Marie Middleton Johnson in 1986. Survivors include his mother, Lottie Grunewald and her husband Eddie of Somerville; his loving companion Kay Turney of Freeport; a son, Nik Johnson of Bryan; daughters Amanda Johnson of College Station and Michelle and her husband Frank Stempuhowski of Chappell Hill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela and Eric Hollier of Scott, Louisiana and Patricia and A.J. Woods of Sulphur, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Brittney Rincones of College Station, Kelsea and Shanae Hicks of Chappell Hill and a great-grandchild, Amberlynn Kahn of Chappell Hill; along with numerous other relatives.
