Vernon E. Nixon November 7, 1926 ~ March 5, 2010
Funeral services for Vernon E. Nixon, 83, of Trinity, and a former resident of Somerville, are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville with Chaplain Wayne Hienz officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Sunday until 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Monday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
Vernon was born November 7, 1928 in Somerville, Texas, the son of Irvin Hugh and Mattie Lee Woodburn Nixon. He attended school in Somerville and served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Alaska and in Nevada. Vernon loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, John and Emma Woodburn, his first wife, Claudie May Nixon; and two brothers, Leonard and Hubert Nixon. Survivors include his daughters, Linda Nixon-Starke of Houston, Toni R. Nixon-Olague of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Candy Nixon of Kansas City, Missouri, Bonny Nixon-Peacock and her husband Jimmy Peacock of Bivins, Texas, and Dana Nixon-Livermore of Bivens, Texas; two sons, Brian K. and his wife Judy Nixon of Iola, and Vernon Kelly Nixon of Iola; brother, Irvin Nixon of Lake Fork, Texas; sisters, Dorothy Gosney of Belton, Missouri, Emma Gene Nixon-Alt and her husband, Jim Alt of Malakoff, Texas, and Rita John of New Waverly; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Family members have requested that memorials be made to Oaklawn Cemetery in Vernon�s memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
