John E. Corbett April 21, 1943 ~ July 12, 2010
Funeral services for John E. Corbett, 67, of Somerville, are set for 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Archie Coleman officiating. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. July 17th at Bee Branch Cemetery located near Caddo, Texas. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday with the family present between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mr. Corbett died at Burleson-St. Joseph hospital in Caldwell on Monday, July 12, 2010. He was born April 21, 1943, the son of Myrle and Brunette (Hawley) Corbett in Tacoma, Washington, but during his lifetime, he always felt he was a native Texan. He considered himself a real outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved traveling, especially in the mountains. He and his wife took a trip to Alaska and he stayed there for 6 weeks enjoying doing what he loved best. He joined the United States Army when he was 16 years old and served for 7 years. Three years of that time was spent in Germany where he felt like he really grew up and became a man. He worked as a diesel engine mechanic for Conoco-Phillips for 23 years until his retirement in 1995. He then went to work for the City of College Station as a plant operator. He is preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Billie M. Corbett of Somerville; his mother, Brunette Collier of Memphis, Tennessee; six sons, Phillip Corbett of Somerville, Earnest Corbett of Mexico, William Corbett of Amarillo, Greg Gardner of Fredonia, Jerry Gardner of Copperas Cove and Steven Gardner of Fredonia; a sister, Paula Morris of Memphis, Tennessee; ten grandchildren, Earnest Corbett, Jr., Nathan Corbett, Jacob Corbett, William (Billy) Hall-Corbett, Ciarra Hall-Corbett, Cheyenne Hall- Corbett, Cody Hall-Corbett, Stephanie Hall-Corbett, Ryan Gardner and Jared Gardner; along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Family members have requested that memorials be made to M. D. Anderson Cancer Research or the American Heart Association Research.
